Do Durian Fruits Taste Good?

Why does the durian fruit smell so terrible?

You're probably familiar with the smell of durian if you're a Malaysian. Durian is sometimes described as smelling like rotten onions mixed with smelly workout socks. There really is nothing greater in the world for its lovers.

According to the research, the researchers are trying to figure out why durians smell the way they do. It turns out that methionine, a rare amino acid, is to blame. The smell was previously thought to be caused by a chemical component called ethanethiol, but it wasn't clear how the fruit produced it. According to a new study published in the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry, the ethionine concentration of a durian increases as it ripens, releasing the smell.

Researchers say the amount of methionine in durian is important to know, not only because it helps us understand why they’re so smelly but also because consuming this amino acid may bring health hazards.

What does fresh durian taste like?

Many people who have never eaten durian will wonder what durian tastes like. Durian lovers say it has a sweet, custardy taste, with the texture of creamy cheesecake. People also describe the taste of durian as it fleshes with a dense taste and rich durian fragrance. This is what most people say about the taste of durian, but in fact, each type of durian has its own taste. Next, we will briefly explain the taste and colour of flesh for each durian.

How Long Can Durian Last After Opening?

Durian that has been opened can be kept in the fridge for around 3 days. Although durian can be kept in the fridge, it is still recommended that once it is opened, it should be eaten up to avoid bacterial growth.
